The purpose of this project was to design contemporary cut glass. As this technique is done by hand it requires an exquiset craftsmanship, therefore only few people can do it or are using it nowdays. Project combines contemporary design, new ways of generating ideas with the traditional skills such as glassblowing, cutting glass and acid polishing, bringing a fresh light to very traditional area. This was a collaboration between contemporary designer, very skliful glassblower and traditional craftsmen that was trained at the Stuart Crystal working together. This project also adressed the issue of skills and the technology in the contemporary art world. As a designer but also very much the maker too, skills are very important for me. I do think that technology can open new possibilities for artists, craftsmen, designers, makers. However when it is combined together with the traditional making skills the possibilities are endles giving a new chance for skills such as cutting glass.
